Safety on our Nation’s Colleges and University campuses is a result of the co-production of safety by nearly every facet of the campus community. While, the Campus Safety Department anchors the ecosystem, the production of safety is much more complex. This book provides an overview of contemporary practices for a successful campus safety ecosystem, including its various components and a well-run and resourced Campus Safety Department. The book provides actionable recommendations to evolve the ecosystem into a sophisticated approach capable of co-producing safety in an evolving society.This book intends to serve three separate yet interconnected purposes. First, the book intends to provide a framework for University and College Administrators to ensure that their campus safety ecosystems comply with or exceed generally accepted best and emerging practices for establishing a safe environment consistent with the academic, scholarship, and service missions of their institution, including the provision of campus safety services. Second, this book aims to provide a structure for Campus Safety administrators overseeing the Campus Safety Department. Lastly, this book provides essential information for parents, students, faculty, and staff regarding the features of a campus safety ecosystem to ensure an educated consumer.
